One Soldier Dies as Army Kills 15 Bandits in Fierce Gun Battle in Niger

No fewer than 15 bandits were reportedly killed in a fierce gun battle with troops in Anguwan Malllam of Kontagora in Niger State in the North-central region.


It was reported that a military officer also died while engaging  the bandits in the fierce gun battle.


It was gathered that the incident happened on Saturday evening when military men on patrol saw off bandits in Anguwan Mallam, a few kilometres from Kontagora town.


According an eyewitness, when the military men saw the bandits on their motorcycles, they engaged in gun battle which claimed lives of many of them.


 Another source in the area, Unguwan Mallam, said about 70 bandits were in the area to attack but military intervention saved them from bandits attack.


“The presence of the military was what saved our community from the bandits attack,


“They were many in the area with motorcycles and the villagers were frighten as we don’t have what to strike back, the source revealed


“But many were killed, we discovered dead bodies even today in the morning in the bush. We found their sleeping kits and other materials belonging to them.”


It was further gathered that as military men overpowered them, the bandits flee into the bushes
