BREAKING: Anxiety in Iju As Youths Foil Attempt By Hoodlums to Burn Police Station

A great tension enveloped residents of Iju environs in Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government on Saturday afternoon as youths in the area prevented hoodlums from burning down the Iju Divisional Police Headquarters, popularly known as Red House.

While the Iju environs had been engulfed in ethnic crisis since Tuesday as scores of people had been killed while properties worth millions of naira had been looted and burnt down.

The DAILY BELLS reports that the hoodlums who had invaded Elliot Bus Stop in about three tricycles, known as Keke Marwa said their mission was to burn down the station.

However, the gang which was allegedly led by one Marwa rider, called ‘Action’ could not achieve its aim as they met great resistance from the police, Security outfit from neighboring Ogun State, Known as Save Souls as well as youths.

The gang leader was said to have faced the policemen who were standing at alert in front of station daring them to shoot him.

While the police shot in the air to disperse them, several youths who were equally armed ran after them as they tried to escape.

Two of the gang members were said to have arrested.

A source told our correspondent that the leader of gang, ‘Action’ however promised to reinforce and ensure they burn down the station when they return.

The youths said they would ensure they protect the station being burnt down.

Several shop owners who opened for business earlier in the day had to quickly close while motorists and pedestrians scampered for safety.
