The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has redeployed the Divisional Police Officer, Ajao Estate Division, and other senior police officers attached to the division for allowing clubbing at the Garbana Club in the area.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement on Monday that Odumosu warned DPOs against encouraging the violation of COVID-19 protocols in the state, adding that he would monitor compliance in the various police divisions.
Adejobi stated, “The DPO, Ajao Estate Division, and his senior officers in the division have been redeployed to a yet-to-be disclosed offices in the state for allowing night clubbing at the Garbana Club on Sunday, March 7, 2021.
“The state Commissioner of Police made the pronouncement while addressing officers, Area Commanders and DPOs at the POWA Hall, Oduduwa, Ikeja, on Monday, March 8, 2021. Earlier, the CP, Hakeem Odumosu, had warned Area Commanders and DPOs to enforce COVID-19 protocols in their areas and that on no account should any of them allow gross violation of the protocols, but many violate these protocols with impunity.”
Meanwhile, no fewer than 113 persons were arrested by men of the command for violating COVID-19 protocols during a raid on the Garbana Club in Ajao Estate and the DNA Club on Victoria Island on Sunday.
Adejobi stated that Odumosu vowed to go after club owners and their landlords, who contravene town planning approvals of the state by converting their properties meant for other purposes to nightclubs.
He said, “The CP, on Monday, March 8, 2021, paraded 113 violators of COVID-19 protocols at the command headquarters in Ikeja. The violators were arrested on Sunday, March 7, 2021, at the Garbana Club, Ajao Estate, and the DNA Club, Victoria Island, Lagos, by police operatives of the command, including the Lagos State Task Force led by the Commander, CSP Sola Jejeloye.
“The CP, while parading the suspects, vowed to go after club owners and their landlords, who contravene town planning approvals of the state by converting their properties meant for other purposes to nightclubs. He emphasised the need to make them scapegoats so as to serve as a deterrent to others.”
