Why APC, PDP leaders want me dead -AD aspirant cries out
By Obayemi Bamidele
The Vice Chairmanship aspirant of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) in the last Local Government Area election in Agboyi Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon Kehinde Andrew Okeowo is not a happy man.
Okeowo’s life seems no longer safe at the moment, as he alleged that thugs, believed to be working for some members of the ruling All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party, have vowed to kill him.
The AD stalwart, who is also one of the leaders of Stand Up Against Corrupt Politicians (SACP) movement, also alleged that his party’s chairmanship candidate at the last LCDA election, Honorable Ogunsanya Onanuga Olatunji, was murdered by yet to be identified assassins shortly after the election.
Okeowo was a staunch member of the PDP before defecting to the AD, and subsequently contested for the Agboyi Ketu LCDA vice Chairmanship seat under the platform of his new party AD on the 22nd of July 2017, a move that earned him more enemies from his former political family.
He said his refusal to accept the declaration of the APC candidate, Mayor Dele Oshinowo, as the winner of the LCDA election was responsible for his plight because he believed the election was rigged, and would proceed to a competent court of law to press his case.
“They are after my life because I have vowed to expose them for all atrocities committed during the local government election in Lagos state. Aside from several murder attempts on my life, there have been lots of sponsored attack and threats not just on me but also on other members of my political party,”
“We made a formal report to the Area G, Police Station, Alapere, Lagos State on the 13th of June, 2017 but the Police were reluctant in taking drastic actions in arresting the perpetrators because they are being backed by the ruling party,” he said.
He said it was not after the gruesome murder of his party’s LCDA chairmanship candidate, Honorable Ogunsanya Onanuga Olatunji few days after the election that he realized his life was in serious danger.
“On several occasions, my resident had been invaded by thugs with the intention of killing me, but I have always been lucky. For my safety, I don’t stay in one place for too long, and my family has also been moved to a secured location pending the resolution of the matter by the police.”
However, when contacted by The DailyBells, Divisional Crime Officer of Alapere Police station, ASP Kunle Obaju, confirmed the gruesome murder of Hon. Olatunji, but pointed out that investigation was still ongoing over the matter.
Obaju however, disagreed with Mr. Okeowo over the allegation that the police is working with the ruling APC in the state to victimize political opponents.
ASP Obaju explained that investigation is still ongoing, and if any of the suspect is found culpable, they would be charged to court.
