A Day of Tributes For Erudite Media Scholar, Lai Oso Holds July 12

Activities have been lined up for “A day of Tributes for Lai Oso”, an erudite media scholar by mentees, friends and associates to celebrate the life and times of the great academic icon and erudite media and communication Scholar, Professor Lai Oso.

 

In a press release signed by the Chairman, Organising Committee, Professor Dele  Odunlami , “the event scheduled for Wednesday, the 12th of July, 2023 at the OGD Hall, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta will feature an array of activities including tributes, special musical renditions capturing  the life and times of the great scholar among others.

 

“The event is being put together by tertiary institutions in Ogun State offering Mass Communication and professional associations such as Nigeria Union Journalists, the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations Ogun State chapters,including the Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation (OGBC), Ogun State Television, (OGTV), Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Alumni,  friends and associates of the deceased and the Victory Life Bible Church, Abeokuta where late Prof. Lai Oso was a pastor before his demise.”

 

The DAILY BELLS reports that the erudite don had died in a ghastly auto accident Saturday, June 24 on his way back to Lagos from Delta State University (DELSU), Abaraka, where he reportedly went to serve as an external examiner.

 

About Oso

Mr Oso was a deputy rector at the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, formerly Ogun State Polytechnic, Abeokuta, later before joining the services of the Lagos State University.

 

He was appointed the dean of the LASU School of Communication and now Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, between 2011 and 2015.

 

Mr Oso also served as the President of the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN).

 

He attended the University of Lagos for his BSc in Mass Communication and obtained Master’s in International Relations at the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.

 

He also bagged his PhD degree from Leicester University, United Kingdom, and was a former Dean of Students Affairs at Caleb University – a private university located in Imota area of Lagos State.

 

Mr Oso was a member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria, African Council of Communication Education, International Association for Communication Research, and Lagos Communication Forum.
