We Won’t Refund Payment For Purchase Of Map Prepaid Meters, says IE

The Ikeja Electric Power Distribution Company, IE, has said that it will not refund payments made by customers for the MAP prepaid meters.

In a statement issued by the company, “Contrary to media reports that IE will refund cost of MAP Prepaid meters, customers are now by law obliged to pay for their prepaid meters in accordance with the Meter Asset Provider Regulation 2018 made pursuant to the Electric Power Sector Reform Act 2005.

The power distribution company said it can no longer invest in customer metering unless with the express approval of its Regulator because it is not permitted to recoup returns on such metering investment.”

Speaking on the development, Ikeja Electric’s Spokesman, Felix Ofulue told The DailyBells that there is no way the company would be expected to refund money to its customers, since Ikeja Electric didn’t receive any money from customers.

“To set the record straight, IE is not responsible for the procurement of prepaid meters. The companies responsible for the purchase and distribution of PPM (Prepaid Meters) are independent of IE. How do you expect us to make refund for what we are not responsible for?, Ofulue submitted.

Meanwhile IE said it has appointed three MAPs who are currently working with it to provide meters to its customers.

“In order to fast track meter deployment to its customers, IE has commenced the process of appointing additional MAP companies to aid the speedy deployment of meters for purchase by customers.”
