SS3 Students In Oyo Will Write Their WASSCE Even Without FG Approval –Makinde Insists

The Governor Of Oyo State , Governor Seyi Makinde has insisted that schools in Oyo State will remain open and also conduct the 2020 West African Senior School Certificate Examination contrary to the warnings from the federal government and minister of education.

The minister of education, Mallam Adamu Adamu had declared that schools in the country should remained closed for safety of students saying that the SSS 3 students would not be sitting for their WASCE as earlier announced to hold between August and September.

But the Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Olasunkanmi Olaleye has challenged the FG’s pronouncement as he said schools in Oyo state will remain open while students in SSS 3 would go ahead to write the 2020 WASSCE unless directed otherwise by the West African Examination Council (WAEC).

He disclosed that schools have re-opened in Oyo state and are complying with the safety protocol.

Olaleye also added that the directive by the minister of education is only applicable to federal government schools.

According to the commissioner,  pending an official directive or statement from the governor and the WAEC, Oyo schools will remain open in preparation for the WASSCE.

While assuring the public that the state government is following safety protocols and waiting for a reaction from the WAEC so that the state government can assess the situation, Olaleye submitted that examination is part of educational development and cannot be ignored.
