Peter Obi’s OK Movement Crisis Deepens as DG Resigns

The crisis rocking the OK Movement, a political group associated with Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, has taken a new turn following the resignation of its Director-General, High Chief Peter Ameh.

The development has thrown supporters of the Peter Obi/Rabiu Kwankwaso National Democratic Congress, NDC, presidential ticket into confusion.

Ameh announced his resignation with immediate effect on Tuesday in Abuja, saying the decision was necessary to enable him to concentrate on his ambition to represent Kogi East in the Senate in 2027.

In his resignation letter, Ameh said, “I hereby formally tender my resignation as Director-General of the OK Movement, effective immediately.”

He explained that stepping down would allow him to devote more time and energy to his senatorial campaign as the candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, for Kogi East.

“This decision will enable me to devote the necessary time and energy to my campaign for the Kogi East Senatorial District, where I am the candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC.”

Ameh, however, stressed that his resignation did not affect his support for Peter Obi, whom he described as his leader. He also expressed his willingness to work with whoever Obi appoints as his successor.

“I humbly accept any individual appointed by my leader to succeed me in this role,” he said.

The former DG thanked Obi for what he described as exemplary leadership, integrity and credibility, saying those qualities inspired the formation of the OK Movement.

“I remain firmly committed to the ideals that united us and wish the OK Movement every success in its future endeavours.”

Ameh’s resignation comes against the backdrop of an earlier leadership crisis within the movement, with some members openly challenging his leadership.

The development is likely to intensify concerns over the stability of the group as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections gather momentum.

The OK Movement will now be faced with the task of resolving its internal leadership differences and filling the vacant DG position as it seeks to maintain its political relevance ahead of 2027.
