The Osun State Ministry of Women, Children Affairs and Social Needs, on Tuesday, promised diligent prosecution of a man, Kazeem Olapade, for allegedly sleeping with his underage daughter.
The Commissioner in charge of the ministry, Olubukola Olaboopo, gave the assurance in a statement signed by the Information Officer of the ministry, Bolarinwa Adereti.
Olaboopo, who spoke through the Principal Social Welfare Officer in charge of the Ede Zone, Mrs Dorcas Lawrence, gave an assurance that no one found guilty of rape in the state would be left unpunished.
Olapade, a resident of Ido-Osun in the Egbedore Local Government Area of the state, was arrested by security operatives after a non-governmental organisation reported his alleged act to the ministry.
The statement read in part, “The alleged case of sexual violation was brought to the notice of the ministry by a non-governmental organisation known as the Monsurat Foundation, which eventually led to the arrest of the suspect.
“The mother of the victim, Basirat Ismail, got married to the suspect in the year 2006, but they got separated in 2009, and she left two female children she had for the man in the custody of their father.
“The estranged wife later explained that she got to know that her ex-husband was having intercourse with the 14-year-old girl through the victim’s younger sister, who reported to her that during the lockdown, their father molested her elder sister sexually.”
The commissioner further explained that the matter was initially handled by the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Osogbo, until it was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department of the state police command.
