‘Money laundering’: DSS DG’s Son Blasts EFCC, Says  Obi Cubana Is A Man of Dignity

A son of the Director-General of the State Security Service(SSS), Yusuf Bichi, has condemned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for detaining Obinna Iyiegbu, aka Obi Cubana.

The junior Bichi, Abba, who is a professional footballer, described Mr Iyiegbu as “A man of honour and dignity.”

Mr Bichi said the EFCC was frustrating hardworking Nigerians with its treatment of the socialite.

As of the time of writing this story, Mr Bichi had not pulled down the post.

Cubana, the Abuja-based business mogul, was detained by the EFCC on Monday for alleged money laundering.

The 46-year-old socialite was interrogated at the headquarters of the EFCC in Jabi, Abuja.

Cubana, whose real name is Obinna Iyiegbu, had attracted attention after he staged a lavish funeral for his late mother in Anambra.

Since the burial of his mum, many Nigerians have questioned the source of his wealth — a topic he had addressed in several media interviews.

Shortly after news of his detention circulated the internet, Abba took to his Instagram page to describe Cubana as “a man of honour and integrity”.

The socialite, while defending his open display of wealth, said how he spends his money cannot be dictated to him by the public.

“I don’t have time for people who want to tell me how to spend the money that I made through my own efforts,” he had said.

“It’s waste of time replying to such people. They’re only criticising me because they don’t want others to succeed.

“We didn’t plan it (the burial) this way. It’s not about money. Money couldn’t have gotten us such a huge crowd, it was out of the goodwill that I enjoy from the public.”
