Lagos State Government Demolishes Several Houses, Buildings In Agbado, Meiran Communities

The Lagos State Government on Monday demolished several buildings and houses tagged as “illegal” in communities at Agbado/Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area.

The exercise was carried out by the state Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, according to a post released by the state Commissioner for the Environment, Tokunbo Wahab on X platform, formerly known as Twitter.

He wrote, “Demolition of all illegal structures, along the perimeter fence of Lagos State Model College, Meiran, Agbado, Oke-Odo LCDA, and environs today by the Monitoring Enforcement and Compliance Department of Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources.”

This is coming barely two months after residents of Oworonshoki and Idi Araba communities in the Kosofe and Mushin local government areas of the state were also thrown into lamentation as the Sanwo-Olu’s administration continued the demolition of their houses without providing them with alternative shelters.

Community sources had told SaharaReporters that no fewer than 200 houses were reduced to rubble. Meanwhile, the enforcement authorities reportedly denied them the opportunity to remove their belongings that could be salvaged.
