Fintiri Commissions NUT’s Petro-Gas Station in Yola

The Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has commissioned the first PETRO-GAS Filling Station built by the Nigeria Union of Teacher’s (NUT) Adamawa State Wing, along Mubi Road Yola, Adamawa State Capital.

Governor Fintiri, who commended the NUT in the State for the laudable project, said the venture was timely as it will boost its sources of revenue going by the dwindling economic resources in the country.

While commending the NUT on Wednesday at the commissioning ceremony to flag off the Petro-Gas filling station, Fintiri described the initiative as the right thing in the right direction, adding that the product should not be given out free to members to enable the Union remain in business and compete favourably with others in business.

He said his administration values teachers and has taken the welfare of civil servants paramount.

Speaking further, the governor said such will continue in order to accord teachers the desired attention looking at their importance in the work of imparting knowledge in the people.

According to him, his administration has embarked on rehabilitation of schools across the state and very soon all the 600 secondary schools in Adamawa would be fixed to improve atmosphere of teaching and learning.

Speaking at the occasion, the Commissioner of Education and Human Capital Development, Mrs Wilbina Jackson reechoed the free education of Fintiri’s government and commended him for his hard work and vision.

Speaking also at the event, the State Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC,) Comrade Emmanuel Fashe appreciated Governor Fintiri for fulfilling his promise on civil servants and approving the continuation of payment of minimum wage and consequential adjustment effective from this month.

Earlier in his welcome address, the State Chairman NUT, Comrade Rodney Nathern noted with satisfaction the good relationship between the present administration and labour union in the state which he described as encouraging.

He explained that the Petro-Gas station was built out of the N500 monthly dues of Teachers Welfare Scheme and commended Governor Umaru Fintiri for fulfilling his pledge to promote primary school teachers.

Rodney disclosed that his administration has so far purchased four buses to ease transportation problem being faced by the Union members among others.
