FG Certifies Lagos Blue Rail Safe
The Federal Ministry of Transportation has certified the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) as safe for passenger operations.
This was contained in a statement released by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) in Lagos on Thursday.
The certification came after Engr. Abdulrahaman B. Yusuf, the Government Inspector of Railway from the Federal Ministry of Transportation painfully audited the rail infrastructure of the Blue Rail.
Engr. Yusuf declared, “I hereby certify the railway safe for commercial operation,” the statement revealed. The safety certification of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit, Blue Line (Marina – Mile 2) is by Sections 50 to 56 of the Nigerian Railway Act, 1955.

Responding to the certification of the Blue Rail as safe for passenger operations, the managing director of LAMATA, Engr. Abimbola Akinajo said it was a validation of the strict supervision regime that was put in place during the construction of the project.
She further disclosed that the Lagos State government was dedicated to ensuring the rail infrastructure was properly maintained to last many generations.
She stated that proper maintenance of the infrastructure and rolling stock will be given priority.
“Rail infrastructure is built to last many generations. We have ensured that the infrastructure built will last more than 100 years.” Engr. Akinajo said.
The Blue Line commenced limited passenger operations on 4th September 2023 and has since moved about 20,000 passengers.
