Criminality Has No Ethnicity, Terrorism Has No Religion — IGP Disu Warns Against Profiling

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has cautioned Nigerians against ethnic and religious profiling in the fight against insecurity, stressing that criminality has no ethnicity and terrorism has no religion.

Disu spoke on Wednesday at the North-West Security Summit in Gusau, Zamfara State, where he called for a coordinated, intelligence-led and community-supported approach to tackling insecurity across the region.

He urged security agencies and other stakeholders to focus on criminal networks, their sponsors, arms suppliers, informants and facilitators, rather than targeting people based on their ethnic or religious identities.

The three-day summit, hosted by the Zamfara State Government, brought together governors, traditional rulers, security chiefs, experts, civil society organisations and development partners to deliberate on banditry, kidnapping, arms proliferation, communal conflicts and farmer-herder tensions.

Disu said no single security agency, government or institution could tackle the region’s security challenges alone, calling for stronger intelligence sharing, interstate cooperation, joint operations, border security and effective early-warning systems.

He also highlighted the importance of traditional rulers and local communities in providing credible intelligence and supporting efforts to prevent crime.

The IGP reaffirmed the police commitment to intelligence-led policing, technology-driven operations, rapid response and closer collaboration with other security agencies and communities.

He charged participants to ensure that the summit produces practical and measurable resolutions that would strengthen security, protect vulnerable communities and restore public confidence across the North-West.
