The Federal Government has announced the indefinite postponement of the Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE) for 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the country.

The Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajubu, broke the news on Tuesday in Abuja while speaking of provisions being made for students to study online.

According to him, both the SSCE by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and that of the National Examinations Council (NECO) would be affected.

“WAEC and NECO for the year have been postponed indefinitely. Students can learn online. We have made a lot of provisions for that,” he said.

“The director of FCT has also opened a portal for the process. We are working with the ministry of information to escalate education content to provide for everyone at home.

“Our biggest challenge is to reach children who do not have devices but we are working with radio corporations to instill some of that for primary and secondary students .”

The postponement comes as states across the country started taking measures to ensure primary school pupils are taught via radio programs towards limiting the academic disruption being caused.
