Court Denies Baba Ijesha Bail, Case Transferred To High Court

By Michael Aderibigbe

A Yaba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, has on Wednesday refused to grant the bail application of embattled Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha.

Baba Ijesha, who was alleged to have sexually assaulted a minor, had been in police custody since April 22, 2021.

Baba Ijesha was earlier granted bail on on May 17, 2021, by magistrates and judicial workers on tour to decongest prisons in the state during the industrial action by the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria.

He could not however meet the bail conditions.

The conditions included N500,000 and providing a level 16 civil servant as surety.

Counsel to Baba Ijesha, Kayode Olabinran told journalists why his client was not granted bail.

He said, “He (Baba Ijesha) was not granted bail because the case has been filed at the High Court and that has denied the (Magistrate) Court the power to grant him bail.”
