Coronavirus: CJN Shuts Down Nigerian Courts Indefinitely

Following the prevalent circumstances of coronavirus ravaging the world, including Nigeria, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Mohammad has directed an indefinite closure of all Nigerian courts.

Except for matters of utmost urgency, no court is expected to sit forthwith.

It would be recalled that the CJN who doubles as the Chairman of the National Judicial Council(NJC) two weeks ago directed the closure of courts for an initial period of two weeks. The initial two weeks expires today, April 7, 2020.

In another circular dated April 6, 2020,and titled “Re-preventive measures on the spread of corona virus(COVID 10)(sic) and the protection of Justices, Judges, and staff of courts”, Justice Mohammad said said he’s extending court sittings till further notice. The circular is with ref no NJC/CIR/HOC/H/656 and addressed to all Heads of Courts, Federal and States Judiciary.
