BREAKING: Okonjo-Iweala Emerges WTO First Female DG

 

 

 Nigeria’s former Finance Minister, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has emerged as the Director General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), the DAILY BELLS reports.

Okonjo-Iweala, on Wednesday, polled 104 votes from 164 member countries to defeat her only challenger, South Korea’s Yoo Myung-hee, at the final stage.

The former Finance Minister and Economy Coordinator of Nigeria becomes the first African and first woman to head the WTO.

Her emergence is expected to be announced formally by the WTO later on today (Wednesday).
