APC Fixes August 22 for State, Federal Legislative Primaries

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has scheduled Saturday, August 22, 2026, for its primary elections to select candidates for four restored State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi states, as well as legislative bye-elections in four states.

The party announced the date in its timetable and schedule of activities signed by its National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, and released on Wednesday.

The APC said the timetable followed the Independent National Electoral Commission’s decision to restore four previously suppressed State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi states.

The affected constituencies are Abraka, Isoko North II and Ughelli South II in Delta State, and Yagba West II in Kogi State.

For the legislative bye-elections, the party listed Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe State; Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies in Bauchi; Udu State Constituency in Delta; and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano.

The party said the sale of nomination forms would run from Tuesday, August 18, to Thursday, August 20, while the deadline for submission of completed forms and accompanying documents is also August 20.

Screening of aspirants, publication of screening results and screening appeals are scheduled for Friday, August 21, a day before the primaries.

For State House of Assembly seats, the APC fixed the expression of interest fee at N1 million and the nomination fee at N5 million, bringing the total to N6 million.

For House of Representatives seats, aspirants are required to pay N1 million for expression of interest and N9 million for nomination, totalling N10 million.

The party also approved a 50 per cent reduction in nomination fees for female, youth and physically challenged aspirants, while maintaining the full expression of interest fee.

“Female Aspirants, Youth and Physically Challenged Aspirants are to pay for the Expression of Interest and 50% of the prescribed Nomination fees for each position,” the party stated.

It directed aspirants to make all payments directly into the designated APC bank account.

The development followed INEC’s restoration of the four previously suppressed constituencies after court judgments, ending years of limited or no direct representation for residents of the affected areas in their respective State Houses of Assembly.

The APC timetable also covers legislative bye-elections in Gombe, Bauchi, Delta and Kano states, including Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency, where the seat became vacant following the death of lawmaker Tongo Yaya.
