NDDC Warns Public Over Scam Targeting Youth Internship Scheme

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has raised the alarm over the activities of fraudsters exploiting its Youth Internship Scheme to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians.

In a statement issued on April 1, 2026, the Commission said its attention had been drawn to a viral message circulating across social media platforms, in which scammers are inviting “all Nigerian youths” to submit their bank account details to receive a purported monthly stipend of N50,000 under the scheme.

The NDDC described the message as fraudulent, noting that the criminals are using the Commission’s youth empowerment initiatives as a cover to deceive and lure victims into a non-existent programme.

According to the Commission, beneficiaries of its Youth Internship Scheme have already been carefully selected and documented through its official database, with many youths from the Niger Delta region having legitimately participated in and benefited from the programme.

The Commission advised members of the public, particularly young people seeking employment opportunities, to be vigilant and avoid falling prey to such scams. It urged Nigerians to rely only on verified information from its official communication channels.

The NDDC also expressed concern over what it described as the disturbing trend of individuals attempting to exploit vulnerable youths who are eager to engage in lawful and productive ventures.

It further directed that all inquiries regarding its Youth Internship Scheme and other empowerment programmes should be made through its official platforms. Prospective beneficiaries were encouraged to verify information via the Commission’s website and social media handles.
