LIRS Reaffirms Commitment to Staff Welfare and Professional Development

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has reaffirmed its commitment to staff welfare, regular promotions and professional development, saying its employees remain central to the agency’s growth and performance.

The agency said it would sustain investment in staff training, capacity building and career advancement while ensuring that promotion decisions are based on merit, competence and performance.

The Head of Corporate Communications, Monsurat Amasa-Oyelude, said the agency’s progress in revenue generation and operational efficiency had been driven by the collective efforts of its employees.

She made this known while responding to a recent media report suggesting a breakdown in relations between LIRS management and its workforce over the promotion exercise and the involvement of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The agency described the report as inaccurate and clarified that no member of staff, including the chairman of the staff union, was detained by the DSS.

According to LIRS,  the DSS invited representatives of both management and the union for a meeting.

The agency said the matter was discussed and both parties were subsequently asked to return to status quo. It maintained that no staff member was detained or intimidated during the engagement.

Amasa-Oyelude said, “It is unfortunate that a section of the media has chosen sensationalism over responsible journalism by publishing a concocted account of events surrounding the DSS engagement. Nobody was detained. As stated earlier both parties were invited, the matter was discussed, and everyone was asked to return to status quo. To turn this into a story of detention and intimidation is a misrepresentation of the facts.

“LIRS is a family of approximately 2,800 professionals whose collective dedication has driven the agency’s extraordinary growth. Management has consistently prioritised their welfare, training, professional development and career progression. The relationship between management and the overwhelming majority of our workforce remains anchored on mutual respect and a shared commitment to institutional success.

The agency said it remained open to constructive discussions with recognised staff representatives and would continue to promote policies that support employee development, workplace harmony, meritocracy and efficient service delivery.
