Tinubu Returns Tuesday, Marks Independence Anniversary in Lagos

President Bola Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria on Tuesday, September 29, ending his extended working vacation in Europe, with plans to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary in Lagos on October 1.

The President is expected to arrive through Lagos and remain in the commercial capital through Thursday, when he will deliver a national broadcast as part of the anniversary activities. He is expected to attend to official engagements in Lagos before returning to Abuja next weekend.

Tinubu’s return will end a vacation that began on August 30 with his departure for London. He later travelled to Paris, where he held meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron and businessman Vincent Bolloré. The Presidency subsequently extended his stay by a few days.

Despite his absence from the country, Tinubu continued to receive briefings and issue directives on national matters, including ordering an investigation into the deaths of 37 suspected illegal miners in NSCDC custody in Niger State.

Vice President Kashim Shettima had represented the President at several official engagements, including the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, while Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, represented him at selected functions. Tinubu’s return also comes as political parties begin preparations for the 2027 general elections.
