Ogun APC Reaffirms Yayi as 2027 Governorship Candidate, Rejects Hunye’s Claim

The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ogun State has reaffirmed Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as its candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

The clarification followed claims by former federal lawmaker Abayomi Hunye that he remained in the race and had unveiled Otunba Abayomi Odunowo as his running mate.

In a statement signed by the state chairman, Yemi Sanusi, the APC described Hunye’s claim as false and urged members of the public to disregard it.

The party said Adeola emerged from its governorship primary with 304,055 votes out of 305,287 accredited voters and that his name, alongside that of his running mate, Kudirat Adegunwa-Balogun, had been submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Ogun State APC wishes to state clearly that Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, is the duly recognised governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ogun State for the 2027 election,” the chairman said.

Hunye, however, maintained that the matter is before the courts and denied declaring himself the APC candidate. His media office said he was only asserting his position on the legal status of the party’s nomination process, which he said remains subject to judicial determination.

Former Ogun federal lawmaker Kayode Oladele also criticised Hunye’s continued pursuit of the ticket, describing it as an “exercise in futility” and arguing that the APC had concluded its nomination process.
