Ethiad Magic: Maresca Begins Man City Era With Dramatic Comeback Win Over Bournemouth

Manchester City began the post-Pep Guardiola era with a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Bournemouth on Sunday, giving new manager Enzo Maresca a winning start in his first Premier League game in charge.

Bournemouth took the lead in the 26th minute through Marcus Tavernier, who capitalised on a defensive lapse to fire past Gianluigi Donnarumma. City struggled to find their rhythm for much of the game, with Erling Haaland among those who missed opportunities.

City’s breakthrough finally came in the 84th minute when Marc Guéhi headed in from Rayan Cherki’s corner. The defender, deployed in an unfamiliar midfield role by Maresca, redeemed himself after earlier missing a clear chance.

The turnaround was completed in stoppage time when Joško Gvardiol fired home from close range after another clever contribution from Cherki. The goal was initially ruled offside but was awarded following a VAR review, sparking wild celebrations at the Etihad.

The victory gives Maresca three points from his first league outing, although City’s performance showed that the new manager still has plenty of work to do as he attempts to reshape the team following Guardiola’s departure.
