NDDC Mourns Bayelsa Deputy Governor, Senator Ewhrudjakpo; Suspends Project Commissioning in Bayelsa

The Board, Management, and Staff of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) have expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, PhD, and have extended heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Bayelsa State on this painful loss.

As a mark of respect for the late Deputy Governor, the NDDC Board and Management have announced the suspension of the commissioning of projects in Bayelsa State, earlier scheduled to hold on December 16, 2025.

In a condolence message, the Commission described Senator Ewhrudjakpo as a man of candour, unwavering commitment and exceptional dedication to public service, virtues that earned him a well-deserved reputation as a tireless and workaholic leader.

The NDDC noted that Senator Ewhrudjakpo’s public service journey was defined by impact and excellence. From his tenure as Commissioner for Works in Bayelsa State, where he played a pivotal role in advancing infrastructural development, to his distinguished service as Senator representing Bayelsa West in the 9th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and ultimately as Deputy Governor, he consistently demonstrated competence, vision and an unyielding passion for the development of his people.

According to the Commission, the late Deputy Governor served Bayelsa State and Nigeria with remarkable humility, sincerity and patriotism, embodying integrity and simplicity while setting a leadership example worthy of emulation.

“Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo’s life was defined by service, sacrifice and a resolute commitment to the common good. His legacy of selfless service, principled leadership and devotion to humanity will endure and continue to inspire generations yet unborn,” the statement said.

The NDDC prayed that the Almighty God grants comfort, strength and fortitude to the family of the deceased, the Government and people of Bayelsa State, and all who mourn this irreplaceable loss, while also praying for the eternal repose of his gentle soul.
