Sultan Declares Monday Eid-el-Fitr
The Eid-el-Fitr will be celebrated across the country tomorrow to mark the end of the month long Ramadan, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abukakar III, announced last night.
“His Eminence the Sultan of Sokoto has declared Monday 2nd of May as the first day of Shawwal,” the National Moonsighting Committee Nigeria said on its Twitter handle, @moonsightingng.
The Sultan is the supreme head of the Nigerian Muslim community.
The committee said no “positive sighting claims were received from members of the National moon sighting committee and other Emirates” at press time.
